Wylie Belasik, Owner and Coach

Wylie comes from a background in non-profit and sport activism and really long bike rides, having promoted sport and active lifestyles as a tool for social change across the country in several start-up endeavors. Over the past 10 years, Wylie has worked in cities around the country to help individuals recover from substance abuse, homelessness and incarceration. He found CrossFit in 2013 in an effort to rebuild a body broken down from years of solely endurance sports.

“I believe that sport’s most valuable gift is as a tool for individual transformation and ultimately social change. I believe that when we sweat and push ourselves, we see who we are meant to be and can share that with others.

What is so special about the CrossFit community is that there is no barrier that creates division the way you can experience in other sports. You can’t fumble the ball and let your team down. There’s no winner or loser. The only criteria is effort and inclusion. Something that both a brand new and seasoned athlete can bring in equal measure. Fostering that in our gym while providing a space to build the fittest athlete and community is what excites and inspires me every day.”

Morgan Vozobule, Coach and Head Coach for Liberty Barbell Club

Morgan came across CrossFit late 2011, bored with her solo-gym routine and struggling daily with self motivation. Shortly after joining, she knew she had made the right decision. It soon became her priority to become a part of the community that CrossFit Center City (now, Subversus Fitness) had built: inspiring, encouraging, and awe-worthy. The importance of her own performance gains were soon paralleled by the progress of fellow athletes in the gym, and she wanted to be a part of them doing well. Coaching has given her a front row seat to watching people change their lives for the better, challenge themselves daily, and do more than they had previously thought themselves capable of.

“I love watching people transition from beginners to athletes. I believe in people before they believe in themselves and I think that helps them commit to our style of training. I also design the programming for our Intro to Olympic Lifting program and competitive Olympic Lifting Club, Liberty Barbell Club, which helps members build a foundation for excelling at the technical lifts.”

Justin McClintock, Director of Programming and Coach

Justin has been training with CrossFit since 2009, and coaching since 2012. He coaches CrossFit, Olympic Lifting, and Gymnastics.

Justin has been coaching since 2012. Certifications include OPEX CCP-1, CrossFit L2, Precision Nutrition L1, CrossFit Weightlifting, CrossFit Gymnastics, CrossFit Kids, and FMS L1. Justin is committed to helping people improve themselves across the spectrum of fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle to meet their individual goals both short and long term.

Tim Heckman, Senior Coach

Tim has been apart of Subversus since 2011.  Prior to coaching in Philadelphia, he worked in multiple areas of the health and wellness industry. Most notably in college recreation and medically integrated health facilities.  His exposure to the athletic, health, and wellness facets of the fitness industry has made him aware of the enormous impact that the CrossFit community and methodology can have on overall well being. 

Through his years, he has trained an array of individuals. A spectrum that consists of clients post cardiac surgery to Olympic gold medalist.  Creating a philosophy that revolves around the mantra Be strong to Be useful, or in an even more blunt version, Be harder to kill.  Using a regiment that has value outside of our facility.

Luis Salazar, Coach

Luis found CrossFit in 2014 and it has been a love affair ever since.  Luis began his fitness journey working at Jefferson Hospital where he is still employed as a Clinical Coordinator in GI and Liver Transplant.  Back in 2010, there was a weight loss challenge and at 320 pounds, Luis knew he needed to change his life.

After shedding weight by simply walking, then jogging, then running, then participating in the Broad Street Run(x6)and the Philadelphia half-marathon(x2), Luis realized the benefits of living a healthy active lifestyle.

CrossFit gave Luis a place to not only get strong, but to feel strong and accepted in such a special community.  As a Level 1 CrossFit coach, Luis' transformation has come full circle.  As someone who made the journey from a sedentary lifestyle to CrossFit coach, Luis uses his experience to relate to athletes at every level of fitness. "Dream big.  Sparkle more.  Shine bright!"

Jesse Dawson, durABLE Coach

Growing up, Jesse fell in love with sports. He was always interested  in trying any new sport and played organized basketball, football, baseball and tennis. This was were he learned that committing to practice the fundamentals was the only way to improve. He realized at a young age that an expert at anything was also once a beginner.

Watching ESPN in 2009 was when Jesse was first exposed to CrossFit and immediately knew he needed to learn more, making it his goal to get a muscle up.

Recently, Jesse began coaching as participant of Subversus’ UliftU program and hasn’t looked back. Since starting his CrossFit journey, Jesse has been inspired by the process of learning different movements and more importantly how to teach them to others.

Arthur McDaniels, CrossFit Coach

In 2006 Arthur came to Philadelphia from Newark, NJ seeking recovery from drug addiction. He entered a recovery program and begin striving toward a new life in a new place. After graduating from an outpatient treatment program, Arthur’s life seemed to be on the right track, but then a few years later, he found himself back in the homeless shelter system. It was during that time, he learned about Subversus’ program, UliftU and the opportunity to learn how to become a coach in the fitness industry.

As someone who always worked out and loving to help people he knew this was his future. After completing the UliftU program, Arthur now coaches at Subversus and you’ll see his smile behind the front desk. Arthur also coaches free fitness classes in North Philadelphia, three nights a week for those at risk of chronic disease at no cost.

“That is the most fulfilling part of what I do. I look forward to doing more in the community. ULIFTU and coaching has changed my life for the better. I am on a continuous course of personal development. A career path that allows me to help others do the same. I am loving this life.”
